Mortgage rates fall to new low for year

Mortgage rates fell for the third consecutive week, Freddie Mac reported.

Through Wednesday, the 30-year fixed rate averaged 3.94 percent, down one basis point from the prior week and a new low for the year. A year ago,  the rate averaged 3.66 percent.

The 15-year fixed rate remained unchanged at 3.19 percent, but 5-year adjustable-rate mortgages rose four basis points to 3.11 percent.

Treasury yields fell four basis points after the Memorial Day weekend, Freddie reported.
