Top Originators: Frequently Asked Questions
Below are the most frequently asked questions we field about Scotsman Guide's Top Originators rankings and process. If you have a question that is not sufficiently answered here, please
What is Scotsman Guide's Top Originators list?
Scotsman Guide's Top Originators is the industry's most-comprehensive, verified rankings of the nation's top-producing residential mortgage brokers, originators, loan officers, bankers, etc. To ensure that we publish the most-accurate data possible, all submitted data undergoes an extensive verification and auditing process prior to the publication of the Top Originators rankings.
Entries will be accepted for Scotsman Guide's eighth annual Top Originators list from Jan. 3 to Jan. 31, 2017.

How do I qualify for the Top Originators ranking?
To be eligible for consideration, originators must have a total residential loan volume of at least $40 million in 2016 or have personally closed at least 100 home loans in the year. Meeting these minimums does not guarantee placement on the Top Originators rankings, however. Applicants who fall short of one of these minimums still can be considered for rankings in niche-related categories, including FHA-loan volume, VA-loan volume, USDA-loan volume.
Please note that submitted data must include only an originator's own, personal production. Loan volume from any other party — such as a junior/associate originator or assistant or others — is not allowed. We encourage all originators to apply individually.
When can I enter my information?
Entries for Scotsman Guide's Top Originators 2015 rankings will be accepted from Jan. 3 to Jan. 31, 2017. If you want to be notified of the call for entries for the Top Originators 2015 rankings,
let us know.
Is there a cost involved?
There is no cost to enter your data or to appear in Scotsman Guide's Top Originators rankings. It is absolutely free.
What kind of data/information do I need to submit?
In addition to originators' contact information and NMLS ID number, we asked for the following data from the 2016 calendar year — i.e., loans that closed from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2016:
- Closed-loan dollar volume;
- Purchase-loan dollar volume and percent of your total volume;
- Refinance-loan dollar volume and percent of your total volume;
- Government-loan (FHA/VA/USDA) dollar volume and percent of your total volume;
- Number of assistants
Information will be accepted only via our online entry form. We do not accept data by mail or fax.
What if I worked for two companies in 2016?
For originators who worked for two companies in 2016, you may add up your totals from both companies and input them as your totals for the year on the entry form. Enter the company name in this format: First Company/Second Company. Upon verification, however, originators will have to provide their production reports from both companies, and representatives from both companies will need to complete and sign the verification forms.
If we work as a team, can we participate?
We are only able to accept submissions from individual originators, not from teams. Teams can't divide their total production by the number of team members.
What happens after I enter my information?
If you make one or more of our lists, you will receive an e-mail from Scotsman Guide requesting verification of your data from a third-party certified public accountant, company CFO or similar source. We will provide a verification form to be filled out and signed by that person, which must be returned with a copy of your 2016 production report. Note: If we do not contact you by Feb. 10, then we do not need any further information from you.
We are on a time-sensitive schedule, so if you receive a request for data verification, please ensure you return the requested information in a timely fashion. We must receive your requested information no later than Feb. 10. Data not verified by this deadline will not appear in the rankings.
Entrants' provided contact information will not be published or used for purposes other than contacting them to verify submitted data or notifying them of Top Originators-related news, when applicable. Your data is handled with the utmost confidentiality and privacy.
How do I know if you received my entry?
You will be directed to a Thank You page after you submit your data. You also will receive a confirmation e-mail from Scotsman Guide to the e-mail address you provide on your entry form. Please keep a copy of your confirmation e-mail for your records.
If you are not directed to a Thank You page after submitting your data or if you do not receive a confirmation e-mail, please
What if I make an error in my submission?
If you have made any errors, you will have to complete the entry form in full and resubmit your data. To help avoid confusion, please
let us know if you submit an entry more than once.
When will I find out if and where I ranked on the list?
Entrants will be notified whether or not they are on one of the lists on the day the rankings are published.
