TO_rankinghome.jpgBased in Henderson, Nev., Garrett Law led all Top Originators entrants in U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)-loan volume this year with $68.6 million originated. That was about double his 2008 total, says Law, who has been originating VA loans since 2001.

He says his company takes heart in providing quality service to military-veteran borrowers because of what they have given to their country. In addition, Law says, they are generally responsible, make payments and live up to their obligations.

"From a lending standpoint," he says, "we like those kinds of clients."

His biggest challenge? Explaining new Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) guidelines and disclosures.

"Investors don't understand how VA fits in with RESPA," he says. "VA has not changed its policies, but RESPA has."
