The Effect of Quality Control on Companies
Continued... (go to previous page) (go to beginning)

Quality control is about more than just your bottom line.
Years ago, I came to the conclusion that mortgage banking is one of the more honorable and noble industries. We provide the financing for America’s housing, shelter and overall support infrastructure. Without mortgage banking, most Americans would not have a place to call home or a place for working, shopping or recreation. So how is it that, in this noble and honorable calling, we have contributed to so many losing their shelter, taking with it a person’s desire to work, shop, recreate, even to live? I dare say that too many in our industry have allowed GREED to drive how they conduct business. Indeed, GREED-the pursuit of money, things and power-has taken down many men, women, industries and even countries.

We must reclaim, embrace and champion the honor of our industry. Let’s start by changing the need for GREED into a need to SERVE. I challenge each of us to look deep down inside and be brave enough to uncover what motivates us to do whatever it is we do in the mortgage industry. Is your motive GREED-driven or SERVICE-driven? Your answer will determine what quality control findings say about your business philosophy and practices. My hope is that we are all striving for higher quality, not just quantity. In the long run, it’s good for our customers, our businesses and ultimately our industry.
