FHA raises loan limits

The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) has raised its loan limits in most counties in response to rising home prices.

Effective Jan. 1, the limits will rise in 2,948 counties and remain unchanged in 286 counties. No areas saw a decrease in the loan limits.

For high-cost areas, FHA raised its national loan ceiling to $636,150  from $625,500. The maximum loan amount allowed in counties with depressed home prices was also raised to $275, 665 from $271,050. Many areas have a maximum loan limit between the national ceiling and the floor.
