Mortgage rates fall in weekly survey

Key mortgage rates fell steeply for the second consecutive week, Freddie Mac reported.

Through Wednesday, the 30-year fixed rate averaged 4.14 percent, down nine basis points from the prior week. A year ago, the rate averaged 3.71 percent. Other key rates also fell.

Mortgage rates moved down on their own. The 10-year Treasury yield was flat for the week, Freddie Mac’s Chief Economist Sean Becketti said.
