Mortgage rates dip below 4 percent

The 30-year fixed mortgage rate fell below the 4 percent mark over the past week, and other key rates also declined, Freddie Mac reported.

Through Wednesday, the 30-year rate averaged 3.96 percent, down seven basis points in the week. A year ago, the rate averaged 3.45 percent.

"Continued economic uncertainty and weak inflation data pushed rates lower this week,”  said Sean Becketti, chief economist, Freddie Mac. Rates declined along with Treasury yields, which dropped five basis points, Becketti said.
