Mortgage rates hit new 2017 low

For the second straight week, the key mortgage rate fell to a new low for the year, Freddie Mac reported.

The 30-year fixed rate averaged 3.82 percent, down four basis points from the previous week. A year ago, the rate averaged 3.46 percent. Other key rates were also down.

Mortgage rates edged down again with the dip in Treasury yields.

"The 10-year Treasury yield fell to a new 2017-low on Tuesday,” Freddie’s Chief Economist Sean Becketti said. “However, recent releases of positive economic data could halt the downward trend of mortgage rates."
