ICE Mortgage Technology has amended the timeline for sunsetting Software Development Kit (SDK) functionalities on its Encompass loan origination system, essentially moving the deadline back six months from the initially announced deadline of October next year.

SDK is a tool that lets customers create integrations, customizations and extensions to the widely used Encompass CRM software suite. ICE is transitioning away from Encompass CRM in 2027, in favor of a more modern platform based on application programming interface (API) technology.

As part of that transition, ICE originally announced that it would be sunsetting SDK on Oct. 31, 2025. But after hearing feedback from customers, ICE sent out an email this week notifying Encompass users that it will be adding a six-month, no-charge grace period following that date for customers who may need more time and assistance migrating to newer, API-based architecture.

Users will need to sign up for transitional SDK access to continue using SDK after the Oct. 31 date. In May 2026 (after the grace period), SDK calls will then cost $0.50 per unit.

“Many of you have expressed a desire for a more gradual shift to APIs, with a preference for delaying any hard cutoff dates for SDK functionalities until you are ready for a complete transition to APIs,” wrote Tim Bowler, ICE Mortgage Technology president, in the email. “We also appreciate your interest in collaborating more closely with ICE during this transition period and are committed to providing the support you need.”

Bowler also touted the move toward an API-based platform in the email, noting a study that concluded that “clients who have transitioned to our API-based solutions are seeing an average financial benefit of $149 per loan.” He also said according to feedback ICE has received from customers, API calls “significantly outperform” SDK calls in speed, leading to savings in CPU and server maintenance.
