Bill Pulte said the ‘economy will boom’ if Jerome Powell steps down as Fed chair

Bill Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), claimed that Jerome Powell is considering resigning as chairman of the Federal Reserve, citing unspecified reports.

“I’m encouraged by reports that Jerome Powell is considering resigning,” Pulte said, according to the statement. “I think this will be the right decision for America, and the economy will boom.”

The FHFA did not immediately respond to a request for comment seeking information on what specific reports Pulte was referring to.

A spokesperson for the Federal Reserve declined to comment and referred to the many times the Fed chair has said he fully intends to serve his term.

Pulte has called on Powell to resign on numerous occasions. Earlier this month, he accused the central bank head of lying to Congress regarding an ongoing office renovation project of the Fed’s headquarters and requested a congressional investigation.

Other members of the Trump administration have also criticized Powell for not lowering interest rates this year, including Russell Vought, head of the White House’s Office of Management and Budget.
