The 37-year industry veteran says she is committed to increasing housing supply, addressing affordability

Lennar Mortgage’s president Laura Escobar was sworn in over the weekend as 2025 chair of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). Escobar called her new role the “one of the greatest honors of my career.”

“I am committed to developing new ideas and strengthening MBA’s ongoing commitment to increasing housing supply and affordability for ownership and renting as well as investing – through mortgage education and training programs — in the next generation of industry leaders,” Escobar said in a statement.

Escobar is a 37-year industry veteran who has held leadership positions with bank-owned and independent mortgage companies. She has served as president of Lennar Mortgage, the mortgage lending subsidiary of Lennar Corporation, since 2018, leading a team of more than 1,100 associates in 54 locations across 26 states.

Escobar joined Lennar Mortgage in 2002 as Branch Manager; in 2004, she was promoted to Senior Vice President managing the Eastern Region; and in 2016, she became Executive Vice President, overseeing operations and production of the company’s Builder Division.

The MBA also announced that Christine Chandler, executive vice president, chief credit officer and chief operating officer with M&T Realty Capital Corporation, was named chair-elect and Owen Lee, chief executive officer at Success Mortgage Partners, Inc., was named vice chair.
