Notable mortgage industry hires and promotions, July 19-July 23

Freddie Mac has announced that Jerry Mauricio will serve as the company’s senior vice president and chief compliance officer (CCO). Mauricio has served as interim CCO at Freddie since January and worked at company since 2019, serving in capital markets and consumer compliance roles. Prior to joining Freddie Mac, Mauricio served as CCO and senior vice president of Capital One Investing, LLC and Capital One Advisors, LLC. Before that, he served in top compliance jobs at BNP Paribas, Barclays and Lehman Brothers, among other financial institutions. He holds a bachelor of business administration from the University of Texas at Austin.

Mr. Cooper Group has announced two additions to its executive leadership team. Shawn Stone was named executive vice president and chief revenue officer and will focus on the company’s accelerated growth strategy, exploring new delivery channels and finding more ways to leverage Mr. Cooper’s technologies to improve customer experience. In his role, Stone will also lead the Mr. Cooper Originations business. He joins Mr. Cooper from Renovate America, where he served as the company’s CEO and a member of its board of directors. Previously, Stone was CEO and executive founder of Global Mortgage Capital. Prior to that, Stone was an executive leader at Mr. Cooper, where he worked for 18 years serving in leadership roles in originations, servicing, capital markets, finance and as founder and President of Xome. Additionally, Jay Jones was promoted to executive vice president, leading the company’s industry leading Servicing business. Jones joined Mr. Cooper in July 2019, most recently serving as senior vice president of servicing. Before joining Mr. Cooper, Jones served as executive vice president and chief strategy officer for Celink and as executive vice president at CIT Bank, where he led the Residential Servicing Operations Division.

Guild Mortgage has promoted Michelle Castle to area manager in north Texas. In her expanded role, Castle will support Guild’s growth initiatives through the recruitment, development and management of new branches and talent in its Texas Region. She will continue to manage Guild’s Sherman, Texas, branch and lead many of the region’s training and coaching efforts. She has been with since 2011; prior to joining Guild, she was a senior loan officer for Starkey Mortgage.

Nationwide Mortgage Bankers (NMB) has announced that Anthony Assi has joined NMB to launch FasterFi, a new digital lending platform for borrowers looking for a self-driven home financing experience online. Assi, who will serve as producing manager at FasterFi, has more than 12 years of mortgage banking experience, most recently as lending manager at LenderFi.

SimpleNexus has announced three new executive appointments. Kevin McKenzie, who also serves as the corporate chief financial officer, will take on chief operating officer responsibilities, including overseeing human resources, information technology, legal affairs, and corporate and facility development. John Aslanian, who joined SimpleNexus in 2019, has been promoted from senior vice president of sales to chief revenue officer. Andria Lightfoot, who joined SimpleNexus in March as vice president of professional services, has been named chief customer officer, overseeing all customer-focused activities of the SimpleNexus customer division including professional services, customer success, support, training, and integration engineering.

First American Financial Corporation has announced the appointment of Rouz Tabaddor as vice president and chief intellectual property officer. Tabaddor will be responsible for the identification, protection and enforcement of the company’s intellectual property assets. He joins First American with more than 20 years’ experience practicing law with an emphasis on intellectual property, litigation, privacy, licensing, and audit and enforcement. Most recently, he served as vice president and deputy general counsel for CoreLogic.

MAXEX has announced the addition of Brennan Walters as chief revenue officer. Walters will be responsible for all go-to-market operations, including sales, marketing and the development of MAXEX’s servicing retained execution product. Before joining MAXEX, Walters, an 18-year mortgage industry veteran, held several executive leadership positions at PennyMac, including managing director of servicing investments and executive vice President of acquisitions. Prior to Penny Mac, he held several sales and business development leadership positions during an eight-year tenure with Bank of America.

The California Housing Finance Agency has a new executive director, with Tiena Johnson Hall appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom. Johnson Hall, who has been a member of CalHFA’s Board of Directors since November 2014, has served as a senior vice president and manager of Community Development Finance for BBVA Compass Bancshares since October 2014. Her background includes also stints as vice president and community development manager at Bank of the West; senior vice president and relationship manager in U.S. Bank’s Commercial Real Estate group; director of housing in the Major Projects Division of the Los Angeles Housing and Investment Department; and project manager for Abode Communities.
