A new plan to restructure the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) was unveiled in a federal appeals court filing on Wednesday, proposing the bureau slash its staff from the 1,723 employees it had in 2025 to just 556.
This would represent a 67.7% reduction in force for the bureau, instead of the nearly 90% reduction that had been desired by Acting Director Russell Vought. The bureau has already been reduced to 1,174 employees.
