A draft budget for federal spending in 2027 proposes cutting funding for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) by 13% from current-year levels as the Trump administration seeks to pull support for what it labels “woke and leftist organizations.”
Submitted to Congress on Friday by White House Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought, the $73.5 billion in funding requested for federal housing agency operations is $10.7 billion less than what was enacted in 2026. HUD administers government-run mortgage insurance programs and enforces a range of housing and lending laws, among other congressionally mandated functions.
