The American Neighborhood Mortgage Acceptance Company or AnnieMac has announced that hackers stole information on more than 171,000 of its consumers. The company started sending out letters to borrowers last week announcing the attack.
AnnieMac, which is headquartered in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, has more than 50 locations across 25 states and employs more than 1,000 people. The company told the attorney general of Maine on Aug. 23, the company became aware of “suspicious activities on certain systems within its network.”
The company using the assistance of a third-party forensic specialist determined that between Aug. 21 and Aug. 23 that an unknown actor gained access to AnnieMac’s network and copied files.
The company is providing individuals whose personal information was potentially affected by this incident with access to credit monitoring services for one year at no cost. Additionally, AnnieMac is providing their clients with guidance on how to better protect against identity theft and fraud.
AnnieMac is just the latest mortgage company to be targeted by hackers. Other major names that have been hit in the past year include LoanDepot, Fairway Independent Mortgage and Mr. Cooper.
